Body of missing U.S. man recovered in Back Bay

A body has been found in the water between Campobello Island and Back Bay.

St. George RCMP responded to the call at 1:42 p.m. after fishermen working in the area found the body floating and retrieved it. Police met the crew at a wharf in Back Bay, according to a release.

“The deceased was identified as a 47-year-old man from Eastport, Maine, who had been reported missing previously from that area,” the RCMP said. “A member of the New Brunswick coroner’s office is investigating, an autopsy has been completed.”

The St. George RCMP and the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office is working with the Maine office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Washington County Sheriff’s Department, who RCMP said is the lead investigative agency.

The NB RCMP said further questions should be directed to officials in Maine.
