The St. Croix Seawolves have been rebranded to the County Moose under new ownership.

We rebranded a couple of weeks ago with a new owner,” said Rebecca Smith, a spokesperson for the team.

The team is part of the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) – a level of junior hockey. Back in June, two NCDC teams were announced in Charlotte County. The Eastern Charlotte Kingfishers and the St. Croix Seawolves – under the ownership of Ted Colley.

In August, the Kingfishers were sold to a U.S. owner.

In a statement to The Courier back in August, NCDC’s director of operations Kevin Abrams said the owner could not continue and had no viable options.

Smith said season tickets are expected to go on sale this week, and it is actively providing updates on its Facebook page. The County Moose hockey board said in a statement posted online, it understands the anticipation from the community – and is working diligently to make information available as soon as possible.

“This is the beginning of something special for Moose Country,” the statement reads.

Smith said the biggest challenge is finding billet families. Those individuals take in hockey players for the duration of the season so they have a local place to stay. The families receive monthly compensation and season tickets.

“Identification Camp (ID) camp begins the weekend of Sept. 5,” Smith said.

The season home opener is expected to take place Sept. 19.

“This is the start of a new era of County hockey, and we look forward to welcoming you to the rink this season,” the statement reads.
