UPDATED: Strong wind, heavy rain expected this weekend in Charlotte County

All of Charlotte County is under a yellow warning issued by Environment Canada.

It said unseasonably warm temperatures are expected Friday afternoon into Saturday. The weather system will bring strong wind and significant rainfall, between 30 to 50 millimetres (mm). Environment Canada expects wind gusts between 70 to 90 kilometres (km) per hour, but could reach as high as 110 km/hr.

“Rainfall combined with melting snow may cause significant runoff and possible flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage,” the statement reads. “Strong winds may cause tree branches to break and damage utility lines.”

It advises checking transit, ferry and flight schedules for any disruptions. The special weather statement includes Grand Manan, Deer Island and Campobello Island. Environment Canada said loose objects should be secured.

NB Power said in a statement is closely monitoring the weather system.

“We continue to prepare based on the latest forecasts. We have crews ready to respond safely and efficiently if power outages occur,” the statement said. “Based on history, the wind speed/gusts are concerning, we normally see some outages and infrastructure damage.”
