The Latest: Jr. Ladies Auxiliary, St. Croix Br. #9, RCL

The Junior Ladies Auxiliary, St. Croix Br. #9 of The Royal Canadian Legion, met in the St. Stephen Legion hall, Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. for the regular monthly meeting with President Anne Brown in the chair.

The meeting opened in usual format. Roll was called by Secretary Geraldine Leavitt, 18 members present, absentees noted.

Applications for membership: Moved and seconded, Cindy Gregory be accepted as a new member. At this point, Cindy Gregory and Theresa Reid were installed as new members.

President Anne thanked everyone who attended the District Seminar on Sept. 13th. She was very pleased with the turnout for the Auxiliary. Also, another great success doing the Turkey Federation Dinner. Great work everyone. She also stated that she cannot thank you all enough for the tremendous response of sweet donations for our sister member, Delia Fairweather and the loss of her son. These donations of love from us truly shows how connected we are as Auxiliary members.

Secretary Geraldine Leavitt read the minutes of the last meeting and the District seminar report. Correspondence: Received a thank you note from Carol Baker concerning the Terry Fox Run. She raised $9030 this year. She has been doing this for 45 years.

The financial report was given by Treasurer Linda Bartlett. Moved and seconded the report be accepted.

Tablecloths were discussed, maybe have something special for Christmas. Charlie really liked the fall tablecloths. It was moved and seconded we purchase Christmas tablecloths.

Claudia VerBakel has agreed to take on the Ways and Means Committee..

Paula Cornish reported we still have a couple more ladies to be installed.

Nothing has been heard about our remaining awards.

Geraldine Leavitt reported the history book is up to date and the September minutes were submitted to The Courier and should be in the November edition. Also placed the Veterans’ Dinner ad in the October edition of The Courier. It will also be appearing on the electronic board and will send off to Charlotte FM for their community events page.

Carol Baker visited all the vets and also visited with Charlie Reid.

Joan Beaumaster and helpers did a funeral reception for the Fairweathers. Thanks to everyone who donated. The response for sweets was great.

Gail Savoie stated she will not be in charge of the Peppermint bingo next year, but will stay on the regular bingo.

Natalie Olsen sent out various cards.

The Legion District Rally will be held Oct. 18th at the hall. They would like to have sweets and sandwiches for approximately 30 people. 

The Remembrance Day Luncheon will be held November 11th  at the St. Stephen Legion Hall.

Old business: It was moved and seconded we make a donation to SSES towards the buddy bench.

New Business: The Vets Dinner will be Thursday, Nov. 6, serving roast beef.

The election sheet is on the bulletin board at the front of the hall. If you want to run for an office or executive, please sign your name, and you must be in attendance at the November meeting.

It was moved and seconded we bring a donation of personal hygiene products for the Food Bank, to the Nov. meeting. 

It was moved and seconded, we purchase a large wreath to be laid at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day.
