St. Croix Br. #9 of The Royal Canadian Legion: The Latest

St. Croix Br. #9 of The Royal Canadian Legion met Monday, Sept. 7 in the St. Stephen Legion hall at 7 p.m. for the regular monthly meeting with President Paul Cane in the chair. Prayer was given by Padre Wayne Spires.

Comrade Mel Walker read the names of the fallen in WWI and WWII for the months of July, August and September.

No guests present. One new member, Judith McKnight who joined on line. 

Secretary/Treasurer Charleen Bodley read the minutes of the June 9 meeting, minutes of the executive meeting of Sept. 4 and gave the financial reports for June, July and August. For correspondence, received thank yous from Makayla McFarlane and Larry and Sharon Cameron. Received a letter from the Ladies Auxiliary about the Nov. Veterans’ Dinner. The St. Stephen Fire Dept. are looking for donations for the kids. Received an email from Dominion Command about membership. Our Oct. 2025 supply catalogue is going online, no paper copy. It was a busy summer downstairs in our Museum. Different displays have been submitted and book cases have been built for all the books. Also redoing some of the tables. The chairlift has been ordered. Still working on the website.

The pavement by the gate has been repaired. Minor repairs throughout the building were done over the summer. Made a few changes in the bar area.

The cadets are starting back up and will be keeping up on what they are doing.

The flag pole in Brockway has been lengthened and all the cemeteries will be checked before winter.

Roger Ruddock is busy getting all the information out to the schools concerning the contests for Remembrance Day. The Hospital and Sick Committee have been delivering get well and sympathy cards. A birthday card went to Charlie Reid who is now 103 years young.

The new membership cards have arrived so your dues can be paid anytime, preferably no later than the end of the year.

Supplies have arrived for the poppy stations. The list will be on the board the first of October, so please sign up. Hopefully the cadets will help as well.

Public Relations, Geraldine Leavitt, has been in contact with The Courier in hopes of submitting articles and pictures and doing some advertising.

The Service Officer Dennis Fahey had five inquiries over the summer.

Sandra Barber reported on the darts which is doing OK. There is a tournament coming up March 28 and 29, 2026. Would like to try to get washer toss going, maybe in January.

Bingo and cribbage are still going on and the canteen is available at bingo.

Discussed the various requests for donations. The Fall Rally will be held Oct. 18 and the Christmas party will be Dec. 13.

It was noted, due to the blood donor clinic being held Oct. 6, the Auxiliary meeting will change. And in December, there is another blood donor clinic Dec. 1. The Auxiliary will move to Dec. 8 and the Legion will move to the 15th. The Legion executive meeting will be held Dec. 11.

There will be a spaghetti dinner Oct. 16 at the hall.

Sandra Barber is thinking about starting up a ladies time, a time to do whatever you want for about 3 hours. More info to come. Still working on improvements for the bar area.

With all business taken care of, a motion to adjourn was made.
