Jr. Ladies Auxiliary, St. Croix Br. #9, RCL: The Latest

The Junior Ladies Auxiliary, St. Croix Br. #9 of The Royal Canadian Legion, met in the St. Stephen Legion hall Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. for the regular monthly meeting with President Anne Brown in the chair.

The meeting opened and President Anne sent out a special thanks to all who assisted with the functions in June and over the summer. All in all a busy summer. Thank you.

Roll was called by Secretary Geraldine Leavitt, 18 members present, absentees noted.

Applications for membership: Have two new applications out.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Received thank yous from the Peters family, Gibbon Moffatt and Karagan Kenney. Received a donation request from Carol Baker for the Terry Fox Run. 

The financial report was given by Treasurer Linda Bartlett. A motion was made to accept the report.

Committee Reports

Property, Sandra Barber: Not having any luck with new plates.

Membership, Paula Cornish: Proposed and seconded, that Judith McKnight and Theresa Reid be accepted as new members.

Honors and Awards, Linda Bartlett: Haven’t heard anything back on our remaining awards.

History, Geraldine Leavitt: Book is up to date.

Press, Geraldine Leavitt: Contacted The Courier and would like to place an ad in the October issue for our Vets Dinner. It was moved and seconded, we do so. Waiting to hear back from the editorial side for the possibility of submitting articles. 

Adopted Vet, Carol Baker: Visited all the vets. Dale Greenlaw’s wife Gloria passed away.

Funeral Receptions, Joan Beaumaster: Had a reception for Buddy Peters.

Sick and Visiting, Natalie Olsen: Sent out many cards over the summer.

The District Seminar will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at St. Croix Br. #9. Need to know how many will be attending. Registration will be taken care of by Linda Bartlett and Anne Brown. Soup and sandwiches will be served for lunch. Lancaster Br. #69 will be bringing muffins. Judy Olsen will be the Provincial representative and will do the election of the new district councilors. Registration is at 9:30, meeting starts at 10 a.m. Delia Fairweather will put the flags in place. The executive will call their lists to ask members to come.

The policies and procedures have been approved by NB Command and Auxiliary Command.

The Vets dinner will be held Thursday, Nov. 6. 

Terry Fox donation: Moved and seconded we make a donation to the Terry Fox Run for cancer research.

Moved and seconded we purchase one ticket per week for Chase the Ace from the penny fund.

The election sheet is posted on the front board. You must sign for the position you are interested in.

Seminar delegates: We can have two voting delegates. Taking those two spots will be Anne Brown and Linda Bartlett, alternates will be Delia Fairweather and Paula Cornish. Judy Olsen is Provincial Command representative, so her registration is paid by them as well as District Councilor Gail Savoie and Recording Secretary Geraldine Leavitt. Our Auxiliary pays for two voting delegates, two alternates and six more. Attending will be Claudia Verbakel, Debbie Grant, Sharen Cormier, Natalie Olsen, Joanne Cleghorn and Carol Baker. It was moved and seconded, we pay for the 10 people that are attending.

With all business taken care of, a motion to adjourn was made.

Our October meeting will be held Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
