The St. Stephen and Grand Manan RCMP detachments say they have made multiple arrests and drug seizures as part of an effort to disrupt the local distribution of illicit substances.
On Aug. 28, RCMP arrested a 42-year-old man after he fled police on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Police seized about 26 grams of fentanyl, a BB handgun, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The same day, RCMP in Grand Manan arrested a 52-year-old man on an outstanding warrant.
“During the arrest, police seized quantities of what is believed to be cocaine,” a statement from the RCMP said. He was later released pending another court appearance.
On Aug. 29, police said it also arrested a 49-year-old woman, seizing what is believed to be 22 grams of crystal methamphetamine, as well as quantities of what is believed to be cocaine and psilocybin. Later that day, police also took possession of approximately 20 grams of cocaine. No arrests were made during that traffic stop.
“Fentanyl remains one of the most dangerous substances affecting communities across Canada,” says Sgt. Pierre Ladouceur of the West District RCMP in the release. “This substance is not only highly potent but also increasingly linked to fatal overdoses. These recent seizures are a direct result of the tireless work that our members do daily to disrupt the flow of illicit drugs into our communities. Every gram of fentanyl we intercept is a potential life saved.”
