27-year-old man dies following crash on Highway 1

A 27-year-old man from Pennfield is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 1, according to the New Brunswick RCMP.

Police said the crash happened on March 29 around 3:12 a.m.

“The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle, which was travelling in the wrong direction of travel, hit the guard rail, rolled across the highway on to the other side, and landed in the ditch,” a release from the RCMP said.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene as a result of his injuries, police said.

Members of the St. George and Pennfield Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

RCMP said an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, adding the investigation is ongoing.
