The New Brunswick government and the Municipal District of St. Stephen (MDSS) is hosting a homelessness community services event later this month.

“This event will host a community services trade show, where local organizations will share information about programs and supports available in the region, followed by a moderated discussion on homelessness in the community,” according to a release from Neighbourhood Works Inc. (NWI).

NWI is the service provider in St. Stephen operates the homeless shelter on 9 Main Street — and has been working to secure land and funding for a transitional housing project in the area.

The Courier has reached out to the Department of Social Development and is awaiting a response.

A recent proposal to put that project at 199 Union Street. This count was done through surveys.

The provincial government has started a provincial ministerial task-force with an advisory council, which includes MDSS Chief Administrative Officer Jeff Renaud.

The event will be held at the Garcelon Civic Centre on March 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
