Eastern Charlotte Ward 1 Candidate: Logan Martin

1. As candidates, what would be your key priorities over the next four years in your community?

My priorities are clear: stronger communication with residents, consistent decision-making across Eastern Charlotte, and making sure families feel supported in their day-to-day lives.
Working in the school system, I see firsthand what families are dealing with, and that perspective matters when decisions are made. Infrastructure, services, and community spaces need to reflect real needs, not assumptions.

As a relatively new municipality, there’s still important work to do in bringing consistency across communities, but it is important that we preserve the identity of each community while doing so.

2. How would you achieve those priorities within your mandate?

It starts with being accessible and listening. People need to feel like they can bring concerns forward and be taken seriously.

I’d focus on bringing those concerns to council in a clear, constructive way and working as a team toward practical solutions. Not everything gets fixed overnight, but steady progress matters.
I also support continuing the work of addressing bylaws across Eastern Charlotte so residents are treated consistently, while respecting what makes each community special. It’s important for fairness and long-term stability.

3. How will you ensure transparency and accountability in council decisions and communication with residents?

Transparency isn’t optional, it’s the foundation of trust. When people don’t understand what’s happening or why decisions are made, confidence in council breaks down.

I’ve seen how important clear communication is, especially during difficult situations. Residents deserve timely, straightforward information, not confusion or delays.

I would push for decisions to be communicated clearly and accessibly, and I’d make myself available to answer questions directly. Accountability also means being honest about what I don’t know, asking the right questions, and taking the time to get the right answers rather than presenting something as fact just because it sounds right. That’s something I take seriously and commit to every decision I’m part of.

4. What is your approach to managing growth and development while preserving the character of the community?

Growth is important, but it has to be done with intention. People live here because of the character of these communities, and that shouldn’t be lost.

I’d support development that fits the area, respects existing neighbourhood identities, and considers long-term impacts, not just short-term gains.

That means listening to residents, weighing different perspectives, and making decisions that balance opportunity with preservation. Growth should strengthen the community, not change it beyond recognition.

5. What is your position on property taxes, and how would you balance affordability with maintaining services?

Affordability is a real concern right now, and property taxes are part of that conversation.

I would approach tax decisions carefully, with a focus on keeping them as stable and reasonable as possible while still maintaining the services people rely on.
That means being responsible with spending, asking questions when something doesn’t add up, and making sure residents understand where their money is going.

6. Why are you the best candidate to represent your ward, and what experience do you bring to the role?

What I bring to this role is a grounded, practical approach and a strong connection to this community. Through nine years working in schools right here in Eastern Charlotte, I see firsthand what families are dealing with and how decisions impact them.

While I don’t come from a political background, I see that as a strength. I’m focused on listening, asking questions, and making informed decisions rather than relying on assumptions or doing things a certain way just because they’ve always been done that way.

I take the time to work with others and focus on practical, long-term solutions. I’m committed to being accessible and making sure residents feel informed, respected, and represented in the decisions that affect them.
