43-year-old St. Stephen man sentenced to nearly ten years

A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 9.5 years following two drug trafficking investigations by the St. Stephen RCMP.

Michael Ryan Foster was charged with drug-related offences. RCMP said in a release that it seized $37,000 worth of fentanyl — a powerful synthetic opioid — and $6,900 worth of methamphetamine.

Foster appeared in Saint John provincial court on July 9.

“In addition, he will also be required to submit a DNA sample, and has been subjected to a lifetime firearms prohibition and a forfeiture order for all evidence and assets seized during the investigations,” the release said.

RCMP said in the release the investigations were led by general duty members within Regional Service Commission 10  in Charlotte County.

“This sentence demonstrates the significant impact that dedicated police work can have in protecting our communities from the harms associated with illicit drugs,” Sgt. Pierre Ladouceur, of the St. Stephen RCMP, said. “I want to recognize the outstanding efforts of our General Duty members whose professionalism, persistence, and investigative work were instrumental in bringing this matter before the courts. Their commitment to addressing drug trafficking continues to make our communities safer.”

Ladouceur said in the release fentanyl remains one of the most dangerous drugs impacting communities.

“Even small quantities can have devastating and potentially fatal consequences,” he said in the release. “Our members have demonstrated exceptional dedication in identifying and addressing this threat, and this sentence reflects the seriousness of these offences and the commitment of law enforcement to combating the trafficking of harmful substances.”
