Fire crews are working to battle wildfire near Brockway.

According to the Department of Natural Resources wildfire dashboard, the fire has reached six hectares and is only one per cent contained.

The Harvey Fire Department posted to social media this morning saying it has “been actively working on a wildfire in the southwest corner of Oromocto Lake late this evening.”

It asked motorists and residents to stay away from the southwest corner of Oromocto Lake near Lane 27 and Murray Extension Road until further notice.

“This is necessary for your safety, the safety of our firefighters, and to keep surrounding roads clear for emergency vehicles and equipment,” the post said.

New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization said it is monitoring the situation from a public safety perspective.

“As there are camps in the area, we want to ensure people are aware of the potential threat,” a statement said. “While there is currently no requirement for evacuations, we are working with various emergency management partners to ensure resources are prepared to act should the situation deteriorate.”
