St. Stephen councillor remembered for service to country and community

Earle Eastman, a Municipal District of St. Stephen councillor and veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, has died.

He grew up in St. Stephen and chose to bring his wealth and experience to representing rural constituents in the newly formed Municipal District of St. Stephen (MDSS) back in 2023 — when he won Ward 3. Eastman was a trained technologist in the electrical and mechanical engineering fields.

He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, according to his online biography, and who, alongside his wife Charleen, loved to go out riding and meet people in the community.

In a statement from MDSS, it said Eastman was a true advocate for his constituents.

“Eastman worked tirelessly to ensure that the interests of rural citizens were kept in the forefront of municipal policy making,” the statement read.

“During his years of service, Coun. Eastman demonstrated a strong commitment to our community and its residents,” said Chief Administrative Officer Jeff Renaud, in the statement. “He will be remembered as a thoughtful, diligent individual who worked hard to make a difference. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those impacted by this difficult loss.”

Eastman was regarded as someone, who around the council horseshoe, promoted fiscal restraint, good governance, and emergency preparedness. He was a staunch proponent of transparent and account about government, the statement said.

“On behalf of the council of MDSS, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Coun. Eastman’s family, friends and those whose lives he touched,” said Mayor Allan MacEachern. “Coun. Eastman was a mentor to many and will be remembered for his service to our country, our community, and his contributions to the MDSS.”
