Eastern Charlotte Kingfishers sold to U.S. owner

The Eastern Charlotte Kingfishers won’t get to hit the ice in Blacks Harbour following the sale of the team just ahead of the 2025-26 season.

In a media release issued on Thursday, the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) said the team had been purchased by the Connecticut Chiefs organization.

The team will play out of Biddeford, ME.

“We are thrilled to be joining the NCDC and proud to bring Junior Hockey back to the CT Chiefs organization. The Chiefs NCDC team gives each of our players a great route directly into college hockey,” said Chiefs owner Brandon Johnson.

In a statement to The Courier, NCDC’s director of operations Kevin Abrams said the owner could not continue and had no viable options.

One team does remain in the area. The St. Croix Seawolves could play out of the Garcelon Civic Centre in St. Stephen.

“We have some interested parties and the plan is to have the team operate as intended with new ownership,” he said.

Abrams added in a release said the new location fits the footprint well, with “minimal impact.”

The St. Croix Seawovles are scheduled to play its first game on Sept. 11.
