Eastern Charlotte Ward 2 Candidate: Logan Cook
1. As candidates, what would be your key priorities over the next four years in your community?
My key priorities will be building more housing, greater access to childcare such as daycares and after school programs, and making our community more disability friendly. These are my key priorities as they are important to the continued growth of our town and to increase the living standards for everyone.
2. How would you achieve those priorities within your mandate?
To achieve these priorities I would work with key shareholders such as other levels of governments, community groups, and developers, alongside other members of the council and the mayor.
3. How will you ensure transparency and accountability in council decisions and communication with residents?
I will ensure transparency and accountability by making public posts on all council meetings and events i would attend as a member of the council. Our constituents deserve to be informed on the happenings of council and how the members of council are conducting town business.
4. What is your approach to managing growth and development while preserving the character of the community?
The key to managing growth while persevering the character of our town is to keep our heritage buildings intact while promoting development on unused and key parcels of land, while also promoting industrial growth in our industrial parks and outskirts of town.
5. What is your position on property taxes, and how would you balance affordability with maintaining services?
Property taxes are a key part of the funding for the municipality. However, I believe that property taxes are too high for the average house and property owner. I believe that the province should increase funding to municipalities and increase property taxes on large scale developments and industrial properties thus allowing property taxes to decrease for the average person while maintaining and upgrading town services.
6. Why are you the best candidate to represent your ward, and what experience do you bring to the role?
I believe that I am the best candidate because as a young person I have a new and fresh set of eyes and ideas. I have lived in ward 2 of Eastern Charlotte my entire life and I hope to continue living here. We need new ideas and new eyes on council and I believe that I will serve the people of my Ward and community well.
