St. Andrews’ Gabe Smith signs NHL deal with Utah Mammoth

Gabe Smith of St. Andrews

Saint Andrews is rallying behind hometown hockey standout Gabe Smith, who has officially signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Utah Mammoth.

The 18-year-old forward is coming off a stellar season with the Moncton Wildcats, where he notched 39 points in the regular season and added 22 more during the playoffs.

Smith sealed his team’s QMJHL championship run with the title-winning goal in Game 6 of the finals. He’s kept the momentum going at the Memorial Cup, recently being named “Player of the Game” in Moncton’s win over Rimouski. Although the Wildcats did not advance to the Memorial Cup final, Smith has an incredible season to be proud of and a lot to look forward to in his career ahead.

Selected by Utah in the fourth round of last year’s NHL Draft, Smith’s signing marks a major milestone in his career—and a proud moment for the hometown that’s been cheering him on every step of the way.
