Home Support Services Inc. (HSSI) and the Maria F. Ganong Seniors Residence say they are in consultation with stakeholders to support the continued preservation of Lonicera Hall.
The 20-room independent living facility announced it was closing in late April due to “long-standing challenges that have made it increasingly difficult to operate Lonicera Hall in a sustainable and responsible manner.”
Seniors living in the residence were told they needed to leave and were issued notices in accordance with provincial legislation, according to officials with Lonicera Hall.
“Our shared goal is to maintain Lonicera Hall in a manner that faithfully honours the vision and intent of Maria F. Ganong, whose legacy remains central to the purpose and future of the Hall,” said a release from Home Support Services Inc. “These efforts are being undertaken with care, respect, and a longterm perspective to ensure that the Hall continues to serve the community in a meaningful and sustainable way.”
The organization said it is determining its options.
“All discussions remain ongoing and are pending further input, review, and collaboration with legal counsel, the Department of Social
Development, and other relevant stakeholders. This process is deliberate and thoughtful, reflecting the importance of getting it right for the benefit of the community,” the release said.
HSSI said it would not be appropriate to discuss the options in the public sphere.
“Productive dialogue requires a respectful environment grounded in collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to positive outcomes,” the release said.
