A wildfire that ignited near Brockway last week has been deemed under control.
The Harvey Fire Department got a report of a wildfire on July 15 at the southwest corner of Oromocto Lake.
According to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the fire burned 17.5 hectares (43 acres). During the firefight, firefighters were called to another fire on Route 3.
“Remaining Harvey fire coverage crews responded, along with mutual aid from the Lawrence Station and McAdam Fire Departments. The fire was brought under control in approximately two hours,” the post on social media said.
The fire department said on July 17, crews were able to return home to rest, but were called out to another fire near Oromocto Lake. It was also responding to other emergencies in the area.
“Firefighters located a smaller but well-involved forest fire actively spreading through the woods,” the post said. “Through quick response and aggressive suppression efforts, firefighters were able to knock down the head of the fire and contain the majority of its spread, allowing for final containment the following morning.”
Harvey Fire Department Chief Jerrad Swan said he was incredibly proud of how quickly the crews were able to extinguish the blaze.
“Their hard work, professionalism, and dedication to protecting our community were on full display throughout these incidents,” Swan said in the post.
The post said the cause of the fires is being investigated by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Justice and Public Safety (JPS).
