37-year-old arrested on outstanding warrant in Pocologan

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on an outstanding warrant after a traffic stop in Pocologan.

The New Brunswick RCMP said on June 15 members of the St. George RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Macarthy’s Point Road.

“A rental van was stopped as part of the traffic enforcement and the driver was identified as having an outstanding warrant of arrest for assaulting a police officer and was also prohibited from driving in Canada,” the release from the RCMP said.

According to police, the driver resisted and drove off, almost injuring the officer.

“The man continued to drive in a reckless and careless manner into oncoming traffic and police initiated a pursuit out of concern for public safety,” the release said.

The driver turned on Seven Mile Lake Road and eventually lost control of the vehicle, according to police.

“The individual then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended,” the release said.

He was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist, the RCMP Police Dog Service, and members of Ambulance New Brunswick also attended the scene.

Jeremy Matthew Booker appeared in Saint John Provincial Court through tele-remand and was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, resisting arrest, prohibited driving, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, police said in the province.

He was remanded into custody pending his future court appearance.
