A 66-year-old man from St. Stephen has been arrested after police say they seized a loaded firearm during a traffic stop near Brockway.
RCMP said on July 2, at about 10:05 p.m., a member from St. Stephen’s detachment received a report that a man had left a property after an altercation.
“The man was believed to be intoxicated and was reportedly in possession of a registered handgun,” the release said. “Following a subsequent investigation, police quickly arrested a 66-year-old man from St. Stephen on Highway 3 near Brockway.”
RCMP said they seized a loaded, unsecured firearm and ammunition.
“The man failed the roadside test. He was taken to St. Stephen for a breathalyser test. The man was later released from custody, pending a future court appearance,” the release said.
Sgt. Pierre Ladouceur said in the release, the public plays an important role in reducing reckless driving.
“Anyone who observes suspicious driving behaviour or believes a driver may be impaired is encouraged to safely note the vehicle description, licence plate number and direction of travel, and contact their local police immediately,” the release said. “Timely reporting can help prevent serious incidents and contribute to the safety of everyone on our roads.”
