Blacks Harbour School receives letter from representatives of King Charles III

The grade five kids of Blacks Harbour School have received a letter back from representatives of His Majesty King Charles III.

The letters that they sent are their capstone project, which is an all-encompassing academic assignment showcasing their skills with a real-world topic.

Teacher Jennifer James thought of this as a good way to teach the kids about the meaningfulness of writing letters.

“What it means to the kids is that their words have power, and we live in an age where technology is important, but the act of writing a letter and planning out your thoughts is important too,” said James.

The letters that they sent to His Majesty contained things that the kids were proud of about themselves, what they would do if they were in power for a day, and well wishes to The King.

The class chose to display the letter they received at the Blacks Harbour Museum, allowing them or their families to go view the letter in the future.

The letter they received said, “The King has asked me to thank you for your splendid letters and colourful envelopes,” and “The King was touched by your thoughtful words of support,” this speaks to the fact that the king himself read their letters.

“When they come back and visit their home community, it will be there as a testament to what you can do when you put your mind to something,” said James.

A copy of the letters, which they sent to HM King Charles III, will be held at Blacks Harbour Elementary School.

“I was shocked, because Ms. James said it was so rare, and I couldn’t believe it, I was mind blown,” said Maxx Foster, a student in the grade five class.
