Charlotte County Hospital Foundation clarifies community questions on CT scanner

Horizon Health Network is clarifying speculation in the community about the progress of the CT scanner planned for the Charlotte County Hospital.

A brand-new CT scanner was promised to the hospital and is being paid for through many significant donations, and in part by a radiothon on Charlotte FM — an Acadia Broadcasting station. The original price tag was $700,000.

Construction, according to the release, began in 2024. Due to unforeseen delays, the opening of the CT scanner was pushed back until early 2025.

“There have been questions from the community regarding the condition of the equipment, and we want to assure you that the CT scanner is brand new, purchased specifically for the CCH by the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation,” the release said.

It said to maximize the lifespan and warranty of the scanner, it won’t bring the machine on-site until the renovations are completed and it is ready to be installed and operational.

“This ensures patients receive the full benefit of this investment,” the release said. “We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these delays and prepare for the go-live date. The scanner will bring tremendous benefits to our community by providing timely and local access to diagnostic imaging.”

It said the next steps continue to be the renovations and construction at the CCH.

“Once completed, the CT scanner will be delivered and installed, and staff will undergo extensive training to ensure optimal use of the advanced technology,” the release said.
