Eastern Charlotte Ward 2 Candidate: Michael Thompson

Eastern Charlotte Ward 2 Candidate: Michael Thompson

1. As candidates, what would be your key priorities over the next four years in your community?

Working within each ward /community so all area have a fair equal voice at the table we are mandated to have a rural plan by 2028 or 2030 at the latest. This plan must work  for all area. And we can make individual plans if necessary.

2. How would you achieve those priorities within your mandate?

This will require several meeting public consultation before/during all portions of this new plan.

3. How will you ensure transparency and accountability in council decisions and communication with residents?

We must inform the public and listen there wishes as much as possible to ensure these plans work for the people that are effected.

4. What is your approach to managing growth and development while preserving the character of the community?

With proper growth planning  and land management everything is possible in the proper areas (multiple plans).

5. What is your position on property taxes, and how would you balance affordability with maintaining services?

The municipality only sets the local rate -(inside and outside ). With the recent increases in the provincial rates there may not  need to be an increase for the tax rate, but we also have to provide services (fire services and other services) that are given to us but the underwriters and if we don’t. Each homeowner will pay for our mistake in the home insurance policy

6. Why are you the best candidate to represent your ward, and what experience do you bring to the role?

I am truly community minded.
  • Residents pay tax  if you take there tax money and not give back. That is just wrong , we must invest within the community
  • Worked  on the LSD committee
  • Worked on the amalgamation committee
  • Have sat on Eastern Charlotte rural community for last 4 years
