Minimum wage increases in New Brunswick

New Brunswick’s minimum wage is increasing to $15.65 per hour on April 1.

It is an increase of 35 cents, up from $15.30, but according to research by the New Brunswick Human Development Council, it is still well below what is considered a living wage.

The HDC said in 2024, a living wage in the province is $24.62, but it fluctuates based on geography, especially in the major urban areas.

According to the province, six per cent of all employees in the province were earning the minimum wage last year, down from 6.7 per cent in 2023.

The minimum wage rate is indexed to New Brunswick’s consumer price index, rounded to the nearest five cents. The consumer price index grew by 2.2 per cent in 2024.

Ahead of Alberta and Saskatchewan,  New Brunswick has the third-lowest minimum wage, which both have a minimum wage of $15 per hour.
