UPDATED: NB Liquor corporate stores reopen as cash-only as it investigates potential cyber attack

All NB Liquor (ANBL) corporate stores have reopened with cash-only transactions as it investigates a “potential cyber attack.”

Lori Stickles, the CEO of both ANBL and Cannabis NB, said on Jan. 7 that the Crown corporation’s security controls detected some “anomalies” in the system.

“As a preventative measure while the investigation progressed, we made a decision to take down our systems,” she said in a statement by email. “Our systems will remain down until we have confirmed that there is no further threat, and we are working as quickly as possible to restore full service at our stores.”

It said it cannot share any further details about its security operations.

On the Crown corporation’s website, it said customers can continue to make purchases at all ANBL agency stores and grocery stores that sell alcohol.

“We will update this notice when stores are open again. We apologize for the inconvenience,” it said on the notice.

Cannabis NB locations are also dealing with issues but are accepting cash, according to a post on the company’s social media.
