A local Saint Andrews restaurant sustained heavy damage in a fire on Saturday.
The Herring, located on Water Street next to Market Square, saw fire rip through the back area of the restaurant – which is believed to be the kitchen area.
On social media, the restaurant posted “all is fine and thanks to everyone reaching out.”
“Fire contained super quick and no was hurt. Time to start picking up the pieces tomorrow. Thanks to the Saint Andrews Fire Department and all other departments that came to help. You are all appreciated.”
People on scene said they heard fire trucks coming to the scene around 4 p.m. on Nov. 9. According to witnesses, there were at least six fire trucks on scene from the several neighbouring departments including Saint Andrews Fire Department, St. Stephen and Eastern Charlotte.
Mayor Brad Henderson also shared a message of support.
“Kevin Simmonds (the owner) is one of the first to raise his hand to offer help for someone or a cause in our community,” he wrote on Facebook. “Although, thankfully our incredible firefighters were able to save the building, it will still be a significant set back for the Red Herring.”
“After repairs and smoke mitigation, I look forward to being one of the first to have a pint and meal back in the establishment. Saint Andrews is here for you Kevin, your staff and your wonderful business. Just like you are always there for us.”
No word yet on the cause of the fire.
