When Paula Ross started a clothesline full of items just beside All Saint Anglican Church, she didn’t think it would be under such demand.
Over the winter, Ross saw items come off the clothesline quickly. First, the hats and mitts went, and then she started seeing people add their own items, like Christmas ornaments.
So, both the public and the church approached Ross to continue the clothes line for spring and summer months.
“I had a lot of people come to me this year and asked if we could keep it up year-round,” she said. “It’s been a big demand.”
Now, the line has bright pink, blue, green sandcastle buckets, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hats and various items – all designed for the summer months.
“If you have something at home that you don’t need and you want to donate, feel free to come and put it (on),” she said. “And if there’s something you need, by all means, come and take it.”
It’s been the principle of Paula’s clothing line since it began.
For her, it has always been about giving back to the community.
“It’s been very emotional,” she said. “When you come and you see people start putting toothbrushes and being taken off, you really realize the need that’s out there.”
Anyone who wishes to donate can bring the item by the clothing line on King Street in Saint Andrews and Ziploc bags and clothes pins are available to protect them for the winter.
